Background

1966

Creation of SDMO by the MEUNIER family to distribute MWM marine engines.

1969

SDMO moves towards the manufacture of generating sets and phases-out the distribution of marine engines.

1970-1973

SDMO begins to develop due to growth of poultry farming and food processing in Brittany.

1973

After its regional success, SDMO decides to develop its presence on the French market opening an office in Paris and building its head office and an adjacent plant to accommodate for its growth.

1974-1983

Commercial offices are opened in Valence, then Toulouse to strengthen the national development. In parallel, SDMO sets up a distribution network in Africa and takes on its first export sales representative. This period offers the first opportunity on the export market in Libya – a key success for SDMO.
From now on, SDMO regularly obtains important contracts in the Middle East and French speaking countries in Africa, through large French engineering and building companies.
SDMO decides to complete its range (only starting from 30 kVA) with small powered gensets (portable gensets).

1984-1985

SDMO buys the "AMAN" generating sets division of ALSTOM, a company with a workforce of 120 people located in the Paris suburbs, and thus acquires "know-how" in the field of specific applications (autonomous power stations, telecommunications, military, offshore, etc…)
It is also at this time that SDMO buys over SOREEL, a firm specialized in automatic panels, in order to control the "sensitive" part of the product.

1986

EDF sets up the peak saving system thus strongly urging important to moderate electricity consumers to buy generating sets to produce and sell energy. This market is a real opportunity, enabling SDMO to strongly develop in France. It will progressively become the leader, thanks to its engineering technical "know-how", as well as the high quality of its customer service. This increase in volume allows SDMO to extend to new export markets, particularly in Europe, thanks to the development of a distribution network.

1989-1992

SDMO decides to open subsidiaries in Spain, Italy and England, as well as in Singapore to reach the fast-growing Asian markets.

1993-1996

SDMO once again decides to take a new step in its development towards export to anticipate a predicted drop in the French market which is overly dependent on the EDF tariff policy (peak saving). SDMO dedicates additional resources to export and sets up a distributor network in South America.

1996

To accommodate for its expansion, and the development of sales and manufacture of standard generating sets, SDMO opens a new factory, with a surface area of 15,000 m2, located in the industrial area of Kergaradec in Brest (France).

1997-2001

SDMO continues its development of export and decides to assert its position in the areas where it is already present (opening of new branches in Argentina, Miami and Brazil as well as an office in Algiers).

2001-2002

SDMO begins to standardise the colour of its generator sets, restructure its range of products and successfully unveils its new brand image to its network of partners.

2003

SDMO reinforces its export development by opening a subsidiary in Belgium.

2005

SDMO reinforces its export development by opening a subsidiary in Nigeria.

MEUNIER Holding sells SDMO to the KOHLER group, along with SOREEL (electrical engineering) and BES (maintenance of gensets).

2006-2007

SDMO pursues its international development. She continues to implement a real convenience service towards her distributors with the setting-up of 3 new offices in Dubai, in South Africa and in Russia.

2008

SDMO federates its pole of engineering skills around a new identity: the Power Solutions activity. It bases its qualities of expertise, strengthens its teams in place and improves the performance of its dedicated tools.

2009

To assure the development of its activity and rationalize its production, SDMO Industries starts the construction of an extension of 15,000 m ² of its most recent factory, Kergaradec II.
Within this project, there will be the creation of a research laboratory, the modernization of its training school or still the setting-up of a new sound levels tests area
